Listen Linda, Listen
January 2021
When I find myself stuck on a project, its usually because I don’t know what to do next. In the beginning I think I have a plan all mapped out. Then something goes awry. A twist, a turn, an exception to the rule. When that happens it is usually a good learning opportunity. I could search google and youtube, I could phone a friend or search my uncategorized library of notes. All of that could be helpful, but the thing that helps the most is to sit. Yes, simply sit. Sit in the quiet and listen for guidance. I’m usually directed to a resource, it could be a person or a document. Spirit guides me to my next step. I may have to do this several times before I get to ‘end of job’. Sometimes my guidance takes me the long way - the manual way to do something so I fully understand what is happening. It’s like taking the surface roads to my destination instead of jumping on the highway. Sometimes I need to have context for the community before I jump out at the store. It’s all ok. I learned. I listened and I learned. Sure I spent more time on it but now I understand. Understanding is valuable to me.
Our capacity to listen impacts our capacity to learn. When you can get completely still, you can listen with your whole body. Get completely still and hear the messages designed for you. Listen to your children. Listen to your elders. Listen to your ancestors. Listen to the voice within.
